Keeping troops equipment to around 50% is enough to repell attacks without a considerable penalty (provided you have a decent template). Also remember you are fighting against Japans buffs and that guns are not the main issue, many chinese ironically did not even have guns irl. There is still an old way to win that still works, recruit more chinese peasants! Set the equipment and upgrade buttons to low to recriut more quickly. But it became clear later on that it was all about numbers. It got so bad I had to send around a dozen divisions to hold nationalist China's last capital. I just won against the ♥♥♥♥ in early 1946 Needless to say Japan is much more challenging than previously, they effectively took half of china and went as far as near Tibet and wrapped around my borders to xibei san ma (with me playing as communist china). My units can't even keep up with them so stop them. And the moment the line breaks the Japanese flood in like nuts and capture the rest of China in a few months, literally flying across China. Once the war starts I easily defend against all naval invasions but then the Japanese attack with tanks and take Beijing despite me having 10 or more divisions there with both support arty and support AT (only 1 or 2 divisions have support AT but all have support arty). I build lvl 3 bunkers on the border and put about 54 divisions on them. Before the patch I rofl stomped the Japanese every time easily but now I just can't.
I just can't figure out a way to stop them. The other problem is that the Japanese fly through Shanxi and just encircle me in a manner of months.
the problem is that Japan sends in tanks and they easily break through my 10+ infantry divisions sitting on lvl 3 bunkers. Are you sure you're using enough men and only infantry equipment? trying to build a proper 20 width infantry army with artillery and the works will hurt you a lot more than it could ever possibly help because China takes forever to get its industry big enough.
